Saying adieu on 123123

It’s been quite the year. I sold my beloved Bella Blu Farm, moved to a smaller home in Florida, my dearest Joylena has a new and wonderful owner, then the we sold the Cove House and moved into our new lovely, but flawed, place on the Bay in West Islip.

I’m still unpacking. And yeah, I’m tired. Definitely too many goodbyes for me this year. Looking forward to 2024, which SHOULD be uneventful by comparison. But, you never know!

Here are some photos from the last 2 months. Most are holiday but I’m trying to give you a sense of where we are on “ before and after “ here at the new place.

Living room from the pass through of the kitchen.
Still thinking to paint the built ins white to open the space up.
Holiday drink at Tres Palms.
Christmas walk at Robert Moses.
The tree!
So much still to unpack so the foyer was only modestly decorated.
From the second day floor.
Painters priming
Before the gray got eliminated! Loving it white.
Before in the library.
Schuyler and Spencer dreaming by the hearth.
The tree at night.

Hoping, as the boxes dwindle, my posts increase. We are off to Bella Blu South soon. Wishing everyone visiting my blog a happy and prosperous New Year!

Some before and after

I will do this from time to time. It’s nice to document progress.

Parking courtyard before. The grass refused to thrive, it either flooded or burned.
A slightly different angle after.
Just after the pea gravel was laid. The hedge is a future project.
Hard scape done. The gardens are a continual work in progress.
The entrance is definitely beginning to look like my vision.

Garden continued

We got behind a bit this week with garden planting. The terrible wildfires in Canada created such hazardous air quality that outdoor work really had to be suspended. But a few things are finished. And lavender hedge is done although I haven’t photographed it yet. But here are a few moments that are ready. Can’t wait for a few weeks to pass so they fill in and out.

A new bench to welcome guests on the front stoop and a container of petunias, impatiens, and grass.
The other planter. I’m planning to spot hydrangeas between the day lilies.

I’m finding that, somehow, my garden tools got lost in the move. Had to go buy a shovel the other day. I need a rake and a leaf blower. But this is all part of creating the home.

More to share in the coming days.

Our favorite dog walk

This morning we should have been on the road. But we are still awaiting a permit approval on the generator. Turns out it’s a mixed blessing as we discovered a nail in our car tire causing a slow leak. Hopefully, we get on the road either Tuesday or Wednesday. I really want to be home for Memorial Day weekend.

Last night I was daydreaming about things I am looking forward to doing. One of the small pleasures is walking down to the cove with the dogs. I have to be careful as the roadway and path are strewn with poison ivy. But it’s so pretty it’s worth the risk.

Heading out down our driveway.
On the path.

It’s a lovely walk, especially on a breezy morning.

Arriving at the beach and dock.
And that’s our favorite, except the climbing of
the driveway back to the house when we are hot and thirsty.

It is a joy to have access to a Long Island Sound beach and the beautiful water. This special destination definitely inspired my blog name. I am certain to have more images to share of the beautiful spot we are so fortunate to live in.
